Suzie Lee
A Hmong-American in England

your next COLLEAGUE is me!

Hello! I am Suzie Lee and as of March 2020 I am a resident of Sheffield! My husband is a musician based in the city and so I packed up my bags and hopped over the pond from St. Paul, Minnesota, ready for the next dream, the next adventure, and the next organisation where I can make a difference.

I’m no stranger to starting over in a new city. Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, I’ve spent a summer in Italy, five years in Washington D.C., and back again to my hometown. Through a bit of quiet tenacity, I have found myself in the company of wonderful organisations whenever I’ve been called to a new city. Having built my career at the heart of small businesses, I developed a unique sense of patience, resilience, and resourcefulness - soft skills that proved to be the pillars of my character.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 2011.

In my private life I am a proud aunt, a fairly decent cook, an even better baker, a lover of compelling stories told through movies and television, and a true believer in the power of kindness.

Executive Administrator
Izzy’s Ice Cream

Izzy’s is a beloved local ice cream company with two shops and an impressive list of wholesale customers including some of the best restaurants and grocers in the Twin Cities. I found myself among the leadership of the organization working closely on major initiatives and laying groundwork for changes in the company’s 2020 business model. This was a hard company to leave behind in America, as there was so much potential growth, professionally and in business, to explore together.

Nanny
Vu Family

The Vu family were weighing a decision to move to Minnesota from Washington DC, where I had previously lived with them. As the parents traveled frequently for work they needed to find a flexible nanny. I was closing out my last days with Outerloop Records and had other opportunities lined up but decided to take on the role of nanny for a year until the family was settled in their new home state. It was incredibly fulfilling and I consider my time as a nanny one of my best life experiences.

Executive Assistant
Outerloop Records

Outerloop Records was created by the team behind Outerloop Management as a means to better support their clients. By the time I was offered to work for Outerloop Records (a subsidiary of Cooking Vinyl) I was already living half way across the country from the company HQ. Despite this, I helped launch the record label and worked remotely for the company for over a year. During my time at the label we release four albums, three of which debuted on the Billboard charts - a big feat for the independent artists.

Executive Assistant
Outerloop Management & Outerloop Records

It was my childhood dream to work in the music industry and I was incredibly lucky that Mike Mowery, owner of the company, took a chance on me as a recent University graduate with no experience but a lot of heart. For six years I worked with an amazing crew and loved my job. These are some of my favourite campaigns:

Refused x Migrant Offshore Aid Station

Relatively unknown in 1998 when they disbanded, Swedish punk band Refused, reunited at Coachella in 2012 and had every current and former punk kid buzzing. Their legend quietly grew between underground music fanatics over those 14 years and inspired new generations of musicians screaming about humanist ideals. The band released the long awaited follow up album ‘Freedom’ in 2015 and donated 100% of VIP proceeds of their US tour to non-profit organisation Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS). As a member of their management team I became the main point of contact maintaining a clear line of communication between the artist, their business manager, their management team, and the organisation. In the end the band raised over $3,000 for MOAS.

Volunteering

Model, and I use that term very loosely, for the album Everything You Ever Loved by the band Make Do and Mend (2012)
